Ukraine: EU and WHO conduct training on PCR testing for health care workers in Sumy
On 10-14 January, a training on the basics of PCR testing and biosafety was held in Sumy, Ukraine, at the State Laboratory for Especially Dangerous Pathogens of the Sumy Oblast Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (OCDCP). This event was conducted and organised by the WHO with the EU’s financial support.
A total of 26 health care workers from Sumy OCDCP and Sumy Oblast Clinical Hospital №4 took part in the training. They focused on basics of PCR testing, practical aspects of COVID-19 molecular diagnostics, PCR quality control, and biosafety and biosecurity.
WHO is considering this type of training as critical before Ukraine enters the Omicron wave that “threatens to overwhelm the health system in weeks”, says the press release.
