EU4EMBLAS: Black Sea stamp collection based on children’s drawings presented in Odesa
On 28 October, a collection of Black Sea stamps based on children’s drawings submitted to the EU project ‘European Union for Improving Environmental Monitoring in the Black Sea’ (EU4EMBLAS) was presented at the main post office in Odesa, Ukraine.
The children’s artworks were created as part of an arts and science school for displaced children called ‘Black Sea Diary’. The school was launched this September in Odesa by EU4EMBLAS, an EU/UNDP funded project, together with the local art gallery ‘Dialogues’.
Its idea was to impart scientific knowledge about life in the Black Sea to children and, at the same time, support their creativity and self-confidence and give them the opportunity to express themselves through art. A total of 29 children, mainly IDPs from Kherson and the Kherson region, from Mykolaiv and the Donetsk region, took an active part in the project.
For six weeks, marine scientists conducted special presentations for the children, and professional artists helped them create their masterpieces in the rare techniques of collage, assemblage and graphics. As a result, 38 works of art were created.
On 29 October, the complete ‘Black Sea Diary’ exhibition was presented at the art gallery ‘Dialogues’.
Both events were timed to coincide with the International Black Sea Day, celebrated on 31 October.
