The EU Committee for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management (CivCom) led by its Chair, Gabor Tothi, visited the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA) between 24 and 27 June 2024. This was the first visit of the Committee to Armenia since EUMA was launched in February 2023.

The Committee for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management (CivCom) was established in 2000 and is composed of representatives of all EU Member States. CivCom advises the Political and Security Committee (PSC) on civilian aspects of crisis management. It prepares planning documents for new missions, makes recommendations to the PSC and deals with the development of strategies for civilian crisis management.

In Armenia, the Committee visited EUMA headquarters in Yeghegnadzor to meet with staff members and learn more about the Mission’s work on the ground. The delegates joined patrols in the Goris area, Jermuk, Khachik and Yeraskh to receive an in-depth brief on EUMA’s work in the border areas.

“The visit of CivCom highlights the strong support of the EU Member States to EUMA. We are dedicated to continue doing our part in supporting stability in the region,” said Head of EUMA, Markus Ritter.

The Committee also met the Armenian authorities and civil society representatives in Yerevan.
