On 16 July, Ukrainian Young European Ambassador (YEA) Diana Didukh organised an interactive session for local children in Zaporizhzhya on the sustainable use of energy.

The session, entitled ‘Energy conservation in action: practical solutions for modern times’, was aimed at interacting with local children and teenagers and internally displaced children, and raising their awareness about climate change, renewable energy, environmental issues and necessary measures to conserve electricity.

Guest speaker Oleg Talimonchik, a representative of the National Commission for Regulation of Energy and Utilities of Ukraine, told the children how to conserve energy at home.

Later, Diana Didukh conducted a masterclass on creating a windmill. She showed participants how to make windmills out of plastic and paper bottles and introduced children to the idea of reusing plastic.

The participants also had a chance to meet the ambassador for energy efficiency, Ozzy the Hamster, the EU Young Energy Ambassador and the hero of comic book stories about saving and using clean energy. Together they explored these stories and discussed how important renewable energy is for our future.

The Young European Ambassadors (YEAs) initiative brings together socially engaged youth from the six Eastern Partner countries, the European Union and the United Kingdom to foster dialogue and to raise awareness about the EU and its cooperation with its Eastern partner countries.
