EU4Dialogue in Armenia: new shelter opens in Vardenis community with EU and UNDP support
On 24 September, the community of Vardenis in the Gegharkunik region of Armenia, opened a renovated shelter and celebrated the successful completion of the community project ‘Empowerment for Sustainable Development’.
The renovation works, supported by the EU and UNDP under the EU4Dialogue initiative in close partnership with Martuni Women Community Council NGO, will provide a safe shelter for over 540 residents and 1,500 people from nearby villages in case of emergency. Local residents also underwent training sessions on how to respond in crisis situations. Additionally, 26 refugee families received essential household items to support their daily needs.
The completed ‘Empowerment for Sustainability’ project, implemented by Azhdahak NGO under the EU4Dialogue grant scheme, conducted Green Energy trainings for 30 families and provided 21 solar water heaters to the most vulnerable households.
The project has also encouraged local young people to take a more active civic stance and register their ideas for improving life in Vardenis.
