Guide for parents in Moldova: What are alternative childcare services and how do we benefit from them?

This guide is designed to inform parents in the Republic of Moldova about alternative childcare services for children under 3 years old. Following the enactment of Law No. 367/2022, which introduced three types of alternative childcare services – employer-organised workplace care, individualised care at the child’s home, and family-type care at the caregiver’s residence – this guide aims to assist parents in making informed decisions regarding their children’s care. It provides detailed information on the qualifications and legal requirements for caregivers, the procedural steps for accessing these services, and the rights and responsibilities of both parents and service providers. Additionally, the guide offers practical advice on evaluating potential caregivers, establishing individualised care plans, and ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for child development.

By using this guide, parents can better navigate available childcare options, facilitating a balance between family life and professional commitments, and promoting the well-being and harmonious development of children. This guide has been developed to help parents make informed and conscious choices regarding childcare services that meet the individual needs of the family and the child.
