SEEDS project: youth receive funding for social enterprises

[post_audio_speech]

On 1 March, a Demo Day was held at the University of Georgia, bringing together young participants of the SEEDS project from Kaspi, Khoni, and Zugdidi. The youth presented 10 social enterprise projects with a business model, and the authors of the top three proposals received financial support within the project.

The Demo Day was preceded by an extensive training process, during which young participants engaged in various activities. As part of the project, innovative social entrepreneurship incubators were established in Zugdidi, Kaspi, and Khoni, inspired by the Estonian model. Youth aged 16-29 underwent an 8-month training programme, where they learned to identify local challenges, develop solutions, and form groups. With expert guidance, they created social enterprise projects aimed at addressing key societal issues.

A jury of experts selected the top three teams, who will soon turn their ideas into reality.

Winning Social Enterprises:

  • BioNova – A social enterprise developing devices that convert organic waste into biogas and biofertilizer, supporting sustainable agriculture.
  • Green Impact – Focused on producing eco-friendly organic fertilizer from organic waste, creating a natural, sustainable product that contributes to agricultural development.
  • Experiment Show – Designed to spark young people’s interest in science by offering hands-on experiments to local students, making natural science subjects more engaging.

SEEDS empowers young people by providing knowledge, skills, and opportunities to succeed in social entrepreneurship.

The project SEEDS – Social Entrepreneurship and Enhanced Development-Based Skills in Georgia and Ukraineэ is implemented by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in collaboration with Tallinn University (TLU), the Youth Innovation Center (YIC), the Georgian Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA), the Center of Expert Solution and Advocacy (CESA), and the Association ‘Atinati’.

The project is funded by the European Union and implemented in Georgia and Ukraine.
