European Union Mission in Armenia reaches 5,000 patrols milestone
On 2 April, the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA) marked a major milestone — the completion of its 5,000th patrol since its deployment.
Established to support stability in the border areas between Armenia and Azerbaijan, EUMA has been conducting security situation awareness and human security patrols along the Armenian side of the border since 20 February 2023.
The mission operates across a 1,000km border line, providing a consistent and impartial presence in the region.
“Beyond its monitoring activities, EUMA engages actively with local communities. Patrol teams regularly meet with residents and municipal representatives to listen, learn, and report on the human security situation,” says a press release by the Mission. “EUMA monitors visit schools in border areas, where they introduce the mission, its activities and EU values guiding them. This approach has helped EUMA to build trust and awareness on the mission and the European Union.”
EUMA headquarters is located in Yeghegnadzor, and it operates in six Forward Operating Bases located in Jermuk, Yeghegnadzor, Martuni, Kapan, Goris, and Ijevan.
On 30 January, the EU extended EUMA’s mandate for an additional two years – until 19 February 2027.
