Mayors for Economic Growth: EU and UNDP to support local transformation in Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine

On 26 May, the EU-funded Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) programme, implemented by UNDP, launched a new Call for Interest to support up to ten cities with EU financing to foster resilience and local economic growth by co-designing and implementing Mission-Oriented Portfolios

The call is open to all municipalities and local authorities in cities, towns, or rural areas in Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine that are part of the M4EG Network and have a strong vision and commitment for local economic resilience.

In 2025, seed funding of around €17,500 will be awarded based on the quality of applications, demonstrated alignment with programme goals, and commitment to joining a peer-learning cohort. Selected cities will also benefit from additional funding opportunities of approximately €105,500 to diversify and scale up activities designed under the Mission approach.

“The European Union is proud to support and empower cities across the Eastern Partnership to lead their own economic transformation journeys,” said Marta Kos, Commissioner for Enlargement. “By aligning local, national and EU priorities, this programme will foster inclusive, sustainable growth and strengthen economic resilience where it is needed most.”

The Guidance Note for the ‘Call for Interest: Mission-Oriented Portfolios for Local Transformations’ can be accessed via the link. For detailed information on launch dates in Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine, please contact the respective UNDP national project managers.

The deadline for applications is 15 June.

The M4EG Facility builds on the Mayors for Economic Growth initiative, launched and funded by the European Union in 2017. Since 2021, it has been managed by UNDP in close cooperation with the EU, local authorities, and a range of partners.
