Unpaid care work in Georgia

The policy brief highlights the disproportionate burden of unpaid care and domestic work carried by women in Georgia, which contributes to gender inequality and hinders women’s economic empowerment. It stresses that unpaid care work, while essential to societal functioning, remains undervalued and invisible in economic terms. The brief presents data on time-use disparities between women and men, including the exacerbation of gender gaps during the COVID-19 pandemic. It calls for policy interventions to redistribute care responsibilities and promote recognition and support for unpaid care work. The publication was prepared by UN Women Georgia in the framework of two projects: “Women’s Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus” (funded by SDC and ADC) and “Good Governance for Gender Equality in Georgia” (supported by the Norwegian MFA).
