Two projects from Ukraine and one from Moldova are among the winners of the 2025  European Heritage Awards/Europa Nostra Awards, announced on 12 June by the the European Commission and Europa Nostra.

This year’s EU prize for cultural heritage honours 30 excellent achievements and personalities from 24 European countries representing the latest developments and priorities related to heritage policy in Europe.

The Grand Prix laureates and the Public Choice Award winner – each receiving €10,000 – will be announced at a ceremony in Brussels on 13 October, during the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2025.

The two winners from Ukraine were both entered under the ‘Citizens’ Engagement & Awareness-raising’ category.

The first is the All Together Festival, organised annually by Mystetskyi Arsenal in Kyiv, which gathers heritage professionals from across Ukraine to engage children and teenagers through interactive events and activities, fostering cultural resilience and social inclusion.

The second is a donation campaign titled ‘The Culture of Ukraine has no Means of Defence’ organised by National Museum of Lithuania in collaboration with the Lithuanian Radio and Television, partnered with the National Museum of the History of Ukraine. This campaign ignited public support through providing essential restoration materials for Ukrainian museums affected by war, stimulating solidarity and international cooperation in times of crisis.

The entry from Moldova is Varvara Buzilă under the ‘Heritage Champions’ category, who has dedicated over 45 years of her life to safeguarding Moldova’s intangible heritage, shaping awareness through research, legislation, education, and public engagement. She was honoured by Europa Nostra with a separate ‘Europa Nostra Award’ as Moldova is not associated to Creative Europe and therefore cannot benefit from the EU’s programme.

“Europe stands as a global cultural powerhouse. It is our duty and responsibility to ensure future generations can experience the richness and diversity of our heritage,” said Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, congratulating the 2025 laureates. “The European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards not only reflect how cultural heritage is deeply valued in Europe, but they also celebrate and honour this legacy and the ongoing efforts of cultural professionals and volunteers working across the continent to safeguard and promote it.”

The Awards, set up by the European Commission and run by Europa Nostra, have been running since 2002 and are co-funded under the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
