Women’s economic inactivity in Georgia

This policy brief explores the structural causes and consequences of women’s economic inactivity in Georgia, emphasising the persistent gender gap in access to employment. It highlights how disproportionate unpaid care responsibilities and systemic unemployment limit women’s participation in the labor market. The brief also reflects on the exacerbating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which further deepened economic inequalities for women. Developed by UN Women Georgia Country Office, the publication forms part of the ‘Women’s Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus’ project, funded by the SDC and ADC, and the ‘Good Governance for Gender Equality in Georgia’ project, supported by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
