Twenty-four public employment service specialists from Moldova and Ukraine gathered in Chișinău, Moldova, on 3-4 July for an intensive training programme designed to provide them with the tools necessary to guide young people more effectively toward successful careers.

During the two-day training, participants explored key topics relevant to their guidance work: how to assess the profiles and needs of young people, how to analyse labour market trends and identify real opportunities, and how to build tailored career plans with concrete steps and clear directions for their beneficiaries. The theoretical sessions were complemented by practical exercises – role-playing, simulations, and case studies – that focused on tailored counseling for each young person.

The training also highlighted the role of specialists in supporting young people from diverse backgrounds – from those with no work experience, to refugees, rural youth, or those in vulnerable situations.

“The two-day training was very useful for me. I learned about the work of our colleagues, and I believe we will apply what we learned to our own practice,” said  Elena Grădinari, main specialist at the Employment Directorate in Florești. We work with many people who either want to make a change in their lives or lack a profession. We now have more opportunities for them to obtain one. Currently, we are organising vocational courses based on vouchers and collaborating with accredited institutions.”

The event also fostered experience-sharing between Moldova and Ukraine. Participants discussed the challenges they face in their daily work, including difficulties in motivating young people, limited  access to opportunities, social trauma, and psychological instability.

“We are in a difficult situation in Ukraine. Many people are returning from the army, and young people are uncertain about their future. Our role is to help them find a profession or change their current one,” said Olha Derevianchuk, Head of the Career Guidance Department at the Kirovograd Regional Employment Centre.

The EU4Youth Phase III Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship programme, funded by the European Union and Lithuania, is being implemented by the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA, Lithuania) in the Eastern Partnership countries, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
