Bridges of Books: schools host meetings with Moldovan writers with EU and UNDP support
The European Union Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has organised a series of meetings with Moldovan writers in seven schools in the Găgăuzia region and in localities of the security zone on both banks of the Nistru River.
The events ‘Bridges of Books. Dialogue through Literature’, organised by the Writers’ Union of Moldova, brought together writers and pupils from several schools from both banks of Nistru river. Gheorghe Budeanu, Dumitru Crudu, Maria Pilchin, Irina Nechit, Iulian Filip, Ianoș Țurcanu and Arcadie Suceveanu are among the writers taking part in the project.
“I believe that literature is the most accessible, lively and healthy means of communication,” said Irina Nechit after her visit to the ‘Mihai Eminescu’ High School in Dubăsari. “There are rare moments when we can talk to each other face to face. That’s why the meeting was, for me, particularly valuable and meaningful.”
The European Union’s Confidence Building Measures programme aims to increase trust between people on both sides of the Nistru River by supporting joint activities in four main areas, including the promotion of cultural heritage.
