E5P: EBRD provides extra funding for waste management in southern Moldova

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development announced yesterday it had secured an additional €4.34 million from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership Fund – E5P, to boost waste management in southern Moldova under the country’s first large-scale solid waste management project.

This top-up brought total support to waste management in Moldova to €15.45 million (with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for EU Neighbourhood and Enlargement as the top contributor).

The solid waste management project in the country involves multiple regions. The project finances the purchase of waste collection and transfer assets such as waste containers and collection vehicles, as well as the construction of solid waste disposal and treatment infrastructure, such as landfills and material sorting and treatment facilities.
