At the end of November, the EU-funded Erasmus+ programme celebrated 30 years of its activities in the Republic of Moldova. Special events were held on 19-20 November in Chișinău.

“In three decades, the Erasmus+ Programme had a transformative impact on Moldovan education,” the EU Delegation to Moldova said in a press release. “Over 5,000 students and teachers benefited from international academic mobility, and numerous educational projects were implemented in universities, vocational education and training institutions, youth and sports organisations, bringing innovation and valuable resources.”

So far, thanks to the support of Erasmus+, the following activities have been implemented in the Republic of Moldova: 83 Tempus projects, 35 capacity development projects in the field of higher education, 37 Jean Monnet projects, 10 capacity development projects in vocational schools, 6 capacity development projects in the field of youth, and 3 virtual exchange projects in the field of higher education and youth, among others.

Representatives from the European Training Foundation representatives, which also marked its 30th anniversary this autumn, joined the celebration.

According to the EU Delegation to Moldova, the ETF has significantly contributed to the modernisation of education and professional training systems in 28 partner countries, including the Republic of Moldova, facilitating the development of skills adapted to the labour market.

“The foundation has supported educational reforms, promoted social inclusion and mobility, and helped create evidence-based policies. Through its partnerships, the ETF has supported economic growth and human capital development, providing valuable expertise and strengthening political dialogue between member states and partner countries,” the press release said.

The celebration sessions provided an opportunity for the ETF to present the Moldovan Rapid Education Diagnosis (RED) preliminary report, to both the Ministry and a wider audience of around 80 experts. RED is the ETF’s methodology for analysing data and qualitative evidence to recommend reforms and identify priority areas for support and policy intervention in education. The methodology is also unique to the ETF in that it takes a sector-wide approach, from pre-primary to tertiary education, including vocational and adult education.
