EU-funded project in Ukraine: Helping not only veterans but also combatants
With the outbreak of a full-scale war, the Ukrainian NGO Veterans HUB ODESA has refocused its activities on supporting the Ukrainian military.
Based in Odessa, the NGO has spent the last three years helping war veterans, volunteers and their families to return to an active social life.
Today, the Veterans HUB ODESA team continues to provide comprehensive support and assistance to combatants, veterans, volunteers, their families, displaced people and other victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war in the Odessa region.
As part of the EU-supported ‘We Unite, We Act, We Win’ project, the organisation provided the Armed Forces with vehicles and organised food deliveries to checkpoints. In cooperation with ‘Veterano Pizza Odesa’, it also delivers weekly pizzas for wounded soldiers to the hospital, as well as fundraising to support the military. At the same time, the NGO is overcoming fuel shortages as well as logistical problems because of damage to civilian and transport infrastructure caused by Russian missiles.
The organisation has already provided some 150 psychological consultations, conducted two psychological training sessions for family members of combatants and two first aid training sessions for civilians.
Veterans can receive psychological support by calling the 24-hour hotline: (048) 70-800-70. More information on the website: http://ato.od.ua
The project ‘We unite, we act, we win’ is implemented as part of the ‘Hold the Line’ call with the support of the European Union in Ukraine and the International Renaissance Foundation, within the framework of the EU4USociety joint project.
