EU hosts #BelarusDays: democratic Belarus and EU support to Belarusian culture
From 9-13 December 2024, the European Commission and the European External Action Service (EEAS), in cooperation with the European Parliament, will host ‘Belarus Days’, a series of events in support of the Belarusian people ahead of the so-called presidential election in January 2025. The project will also mark Human Rights Day on 10 December.
‘Belarus Days’ aims to demonstrate the EU’s continued commitment to the Belarusian people and to showcase the impact of EU support for Belarusian culture. The series of events will take place alongside the 4th meeting of the EU Consultative Group with Belarusian democratic forces and civil society. It will include a high-level musical evening in Flagey and a high-level conference in the European Parliament, as well as cultural events celebrating Belarusian culture, identity, language and heritage.
A wide range of stakeholders will take part, including EU representatives, Brussels-based diplomatic corps, MEPs, international organisations, NGOs, over 100 Belarusians, think tanks, media, and the general public. This comprehensive programme will provide a platform for cultural exchange, artistic expression, and awareness-raising about the situation in Belarus.

Screening of the film Motherland (9 December, 19:00-21:00)
Venue: Flagey, Studio 5, Place Sainte Croix, Brussels
Screening of the film Motherland created by independent Belarusian directors Aleksandr Mikhalkovich and Hanna Badziaka, followed by a discussion with a director and a representative of the VODBLISK online cinema. The VODBLISK cinema is a beneficiary of two EU-funded projects – EU4Culture and ArtPower Belarus. The event is organised by the European Commission with the support of the EU4Culture project (implemented by a Goethe-Institut-led consortium).
Interactive exhibition #Framed in Belarus (10 December, 17:30-19:00)
Venue: Mission of Democratic Belarus, Rue de la Science 23, Brussels
The exhibition Interwoven Spaces will present the #FramedinBelarus artivist project. Through traditional Belarusian embroidery, with red thread on white background, the project depicts every person unjustly convicted in Belarus and marks an important period of Belarusian history. The exhibition’s organisers will guide visitors into the Mission of Democratic Belarus in Brussels, which will be transformed to honour Belarusian political prisoners. The event is organised by the European Commission with the support of the EU4Culture project (implemented by a Goethe Institut-led consortium).
