EU provides emergency support to VET Schools and helps improve educational process in Ukraine
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the EU-funded EU4Skills programme has expanded its activities. Today, it helps vocational schools to maintain the teaching process and to accommodate 4,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) housed in VET dormitories.
In addition, the support package includes the provision of basic necessities, psychological support for IDPs and training for staff and volunteers on how better to manage the hostels.
By the end of May 2022, EU4Skills will have provided 5,500 pillows, 1,500 blankets and 1,500 folding beds to selected vocational schools. EU4Skills will also provide up to 22,000 baby food units and more than 2 million medical supplies to Ukrainian families in need.
In the meantime, while vocational schools are closed for face-to-face classes, EU4Skills helps these institutions to improve their online lessons. EU4Skills provides online courses and materials translated into Ukrainian and adapted to the local context.
In addition, the programme organises events in an online café format that gives more than 2,200 teachers and students the opportunity to work on developing soft skills. EU4Skills continues to help Ukrainian vocational schools to participate in the Erasmus+ project and to work with their European counterparts to help develop proposals and seek partners across Europe.
EU4Skills was originally created as a programme to support the reform of vocational education and training in Ukraine. It aims to modernise vocational education and training institutions and train school leaders and teachers in seven pilot regions: Chernivtsi, Lviv, Mykolayiv, Poltava, Rivne, Vinnytsia and Zaporizhzhia.
