On 29 January, an EU-funded project handed over new equipment for border protection to the General Inspectorate of Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.

With this cutting-edge mobile technology, the General Inspectorate of Border Police will be able to strengthen state border surveillance, protecting the safety of citizens and guaranteeing national security.

The new mobile technology systems offer a flexible and efficient solution, allowing for rapid relocation, adaptation to different operational conditions and coverage of large areas. It will optimise control at official border crossing points and improve the detection of attempted irregular crossings in unauthorised areas.

“The integration of this equipment into existing systems will improve the response to challenges such as uncontrolled migration, human trafficking and smuggling,” said Mariana Lucreteanu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. “Thus, by modernising the surveillance infrastructure and increasing the operational capacity, authorities’ interventions will be faster and more effective.”

The equipment is provided as part of the project ‘Supporting the protection, transit, voluntary and informed return and reintegration of Eastern Partnership and third-country nationals affected by the conflict in Ukraine’, implemented by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
