EU4Recovery: Women’s Forum in Uzhhorod highlights role in Ukraine’s recovery
On 26 November, the Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod in the Zakarpattia region hosted the ‘Women’s Forum’, bringing together women leaders to discuss the challenges of war and to combine efforts for Ukraine’s recovery. The event was organised by UNHCR, UNDP, the EU, and the Zakarpattia Oblast State Administration with the participation of civil society organisations.
The forum was held to strengthen and highlight the role of women in the development of Zakarpattia and Ukraine. It brought together women leaders from business, local self-government, and civil society organisations, providing a platform to share experiences, exchange ideas, and develop strategies to support regional and national recovery amid the ongoing full-scale war. They shared inspiring stories of relocating businesses, starting new ventures from scratch in new communities, managing successful initiatives, and overcoming the challenges of displacement.
“The European Union actively supports Ukrainian women, who are demonstrating exceptional leadership and determination under extraordinarily difficult circumstances,” said Henrik Huitfeldt, Acting Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Ukraine. “Through grant programmes, social infrastructure development and professional skills training, we are helping to create conditions for their economic independence and active engagement in Ukraine’s recovery.”
The forum was supported by the European Union and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine through their partnership ‘EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine’, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Zakarpattia Oblast State Administration, and UNHCR’s implementing partners: Neemia NGO and the ‘Carpathian Region’ International Charitable Foundation (NEEKA).
