EU4Youth: young people and local authorities from Moldova co-create solutions for their communities
From 10 to 17 June, four localities in Moldova — Cimișlia, Zubrești, Cupcini, and Bardar — hosted Youth Policy Lab workshops.
The initiative creates a collaborative space where young people and local public authorities come together to identify real community challenges and develop viable, sustainable solutions.
The sessions aimed to strengthen dialogue between young people and local administrations so that public decisions better reflect the actual needs of the younger generation. Participants – active local youth and representatives of local public authorities (LPA) – worked together to analyse existing issues, prioritize them, and propose actionable solutions. Three of the four localities will each receive grants of 50,000 MDL to implement the solutions developed during the workshops.
Key topics addressed included: what a Policy Lab is and how it works, how to identify and analyse a public policy issue, how to involve the community in validating it, and how to develop micro-experiments – testable solutions co-created by youth and LPAs. At the same time, all four localities received support in establishing youth advisory councils, and access to training, facilitation, and technical assistance throughout the process.
In the coming period, young people – in collaboration with local authorities – will prepare project applications and detailed budgets for the proposed initiatives, continuing to benefit from the Youth Policy Lab team’s support.
The Youth Policy Labs are implemented by the National Youth Council of Moldova (CNTM) with the support of the ‘EU4Youth: Youth Engagement and Empowerment’ project, co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ.
