EUBAM boosts Moldovan Customs Service with technical assistance

The European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) has provided technical assistance worth €123,000 to the Moldovan Customs Service to enhance its operational capabilities. The donation, handed over in the beginning of July, includes servers, smart batteries, and printers to improve the service’s efficiency and reliability.

The new servers and components will enhance the performance and data integrity of the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) in the Republic of Moldova. Networking equipment such as switches and antennas will allow customs officers to create local area networks for peripheral workstations. Batteries for smart servers will ensure uninterrupted power supply during power outages. In addition, 15 multifunctional printers were provided to keep the office up and running, and 25 iPad tablets will enable customs posts to monitor traffic at control lanes in real time, which will simplify border traffic and optimise the actions of customs officers.

This donation is part of a larger package aimed at supporting border and customs authorities in both the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

“EUBAM is proud to support our partners with the equipment essential for modern border management, promoting European Union standards and procedures for quicker crossings of people and goods,” said Slawomir Pichor, Head of EUBAM.
