Europe Day in Armenia: ‘EU–Armenia relations have never been closer’, EU ambassador says
On Europe Day, 9 May, Freedom Square in Yerevan turned into a hub of unity, culture, and celebration of 33 years of EU-Armenia partnership.
United by the slogan ‘EU-Armenia: A Cultural Bridge,’ hundreds of residents and visitors to Yerevan joined in the Europe Day celebrations to celebrate friendship, culture and shared values.
Visitors learned about EU-funded programmes, talked to representatives of EU embassies and enjoyed a cultural performance featuring folk dances, jazz ensembles, choirs and contemporary Armenian arts.
“As we celebrate our cultural ties – from Komitas’ music to Tamanyan’s architecture – we also look to the future. EU–Armenia relations have never been closer. Together, we are building a more resilient, peaceful, and reform-driven future,” said EU Ambassador Vassilis Maragos.
During Europe Days in Armenia, the theatrical performance, This is Europe, was staged at the State Drama Theatre after Levon Kalantaryan in Gavar and in Yerevan. Hendrik Vos and Frans Grapperhaus presented their thought-provoking performance to the Armenian audience, taking them on a cultural journey through Europe while exploring the essential question: “What or who is Europe?”
