European Political Community meets in Copenhagen to discuss security in Europe
On 2 October, the seventh meeting of the European Political Community brought together leaders from across the continent in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Leaders discussed how to strengthen Ukraine and make Europe stronger and more secure.
The EU was represented by António Costa, the President of the European Council, who co-chaired the meeting with Mette Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, as well as by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
Ukraine
President Costa, President von der Leyen and Prime Minister Frederiksen met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and reiterated the EU and its partners’ support for Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
“Supporting Ukraine is not supporting war, it is supporting Ukraine’s right to a lasting peace, to a just peace,” President Costa said.

Armenia
The top EU officials also met with Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia. President Costa congratulated Pashinyan on the landmark progress agreed with Azerbaijan, a crucial step towards peace and stability in the region.
“The peace you have achieved is a great moment for our Europe,” President Costa said.

Azerbaijan
President Costa, President von der Leyen, and High Representative Kaja Kallas also met with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev whom they congratulated on the recent historic breakthrough achieved with Armenia in Washington.
“The EU will continue to invest in regional connectivity – in transport, energy, and digital – through the Global Gateway strategy,” António Costa said. “We value Azerbaijan as an important partner and we are committed to strengthening our ties.”

Moldova
The top EU officials, together with leaders from France, Poland, Romania and a representative from the United Kingdom, met the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu.
President Costa congratulated President Sandu on the victory achieved by democratic and pro-European forces last Sunday in Moldova. The leaders discussed how to speed up progress towards the European future that Moldovans have voted for.
“Once again, the people of Moldova made their voice heard: they chose Europe,” President Costa said.

The European Political Community, first launched by then-European Council President Charles Michel in October 2022, has now met several times. The EPC aims to foster political dialogue and cooperation to address issues of common interest and strengthen the security, stability and prosperity of the European continent. This platform for political coordination does not replace any existing organisation, structure or process, nor does it aim to create new ones at this stage.
The next European Political Community meetings will take place in Armenia and Ireland.
