Europol conducts international action to disrupt sexual exploitation of Ukrainians
From 25 to 28 February, the EU agency Europol hosted an international operational action aimed at detecting and disrupting human trafficking networks using online platforms to enable their criminal activities against Ukrainians.
The event brought together analytical, OSINT and investigative experts from 12 countries, including Ukraine. The action took place at Europol’s headquarters in The Hague, coinciding with the third anniversary of the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
With a focus on the sexual exploitation of Ukrainian nationals, experts checked 690 entities monitored (including platforms, persons, usernames, locations and phone numbers), identified potential cases ( 21 potential suspected human traffickers and 41 potential victims), and cross-checked intelligence against national databases.
The action was conducted as part of the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT), which tackles the most important threats posed by organised and serious international crime affecting the EU. EMPACT strengthens intelligence, strategic and operational cooperation between national authorities, EU institutions and bodies, and international partners.
