On 24 June, European Union Ambassador to Moldova, Jānis Mažeiks, took part in the Government Diploma of Honour award ceremony, along with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the Head of Parliament, Igor Grosu, and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

The officials expressed their appreciation to the approximately 35,000 civil servants of the Republic of Moldova for the work they do. A total of 120 civil servants from the central and local public administration were awarded the Government Diploma of Honour.

The festive event, marking Civil Servant’s Day, aimed to appreciate the role of civil servants in society, encourage performance and professionalism, stimulate dialogue and cooperation between public authorities in order to develop a modern, efficient and citizen-oriented administration.

“We are living in challenging times, but we also have a historic opportunity – to put Moldova in a safe place, in the European Union. The success of this path depends on each of us: on a job well done, on respect for people and on the courage to move forward together. Our country needs professionals who believe in it, who care for it and who contribute to the common good,” President Sandu said.

The event was organised with the support of the ‘Policy Advice Fund’, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by GIZ Moldova, and the EU-funded project ‘Moldova is Europe – Support for EU Integration’.

The Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Jānis Mažeiks, said: “The European Union recognises the vital role Moldova’s civil servants play in shaping the country’s European future. Their commitment and professionalism have been key to the impressive progress made since the start of accession negotiations. The road ahead may be challenging — but Moldova’s public administration has the drive and capacity to lead this transformation.”

He added that the EU stands firmly beside its public service to help deliver the reforms that bring the country closer to the European Union and improve the lives of its citizens.
