Moldova: Cahul celebrates families, community spirit, and Europe
On 17 May, the Nicolae Botgros palace of culture in Cahul, Moldova, gathered hundreds of children, parents, and grandparents for the Family Festival celebration — an event marking both International Family Day and Europe Day.
The event was organised by UNICEF and the Cahul Municipality under the ‘EU4Moldova: Focal Regions’ programme, funded by the European Union.
“This festival is a celebration of what is most precious to all of us: our families, our children, and the bonds that hold us together. Investing in children is investing in Moldova’s future — our common European future,” said Máté Csicsai, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova. “That is why the EU supports improving education, building child-friendly, modern social infrastructure and promoting inclusion. Every child deserves to grow up in an environment of care, opportunity, and joy.”
The thematic areas of the festival offered activities for all ages, from art and handcrafting to sport activities. The ‘EU Projects at Home’ photo exhibition offered a visual journey through the real-life impact of EU investments in Cahul.
The day ended with the ‘Family Hora’, a traditional Moldovan dance that brought participants together.
With €23.3 million invested between 2019 and 2025, the ‘EU4Moldova: Focal Regions’ programme strengthens socio-economic growth and improves the standards of living in Ungheni and Cahul.
