Pupils and teachers from the Grigore Grigoriu Theoretical High School in the village of Cîrnățeni, in the Căuseni district of Moldova, will now have a safer journey on their way to school. The area in front of the high school will be upgraded with the support of the EU Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP.

The school, attended by more than 350 students, has not seen any repairs to its schoolyard since it was built in 1989.

The courtyard in front of the school will be modernised by laying paving stones, landscaping driveways, installing curbs and recreation areas. A ramp will be installed at the main entrance to the school building to improve access to the school.

“We run different activities in the courtyard of the high school and its renovation became necessary due to the deteriorated asphalt, which posed a risk of injury to the children,” said  Natalia Paniș, school’s principal. “Our school is attended by children from the locality, but also from other parts of the country, we even have teachers from Tiraspol, Tighina (Bender) specialised in arts such as music theory, music, etc.”

Previously, in 2016, the Grigore Grigoriu Theoretical High School benefited from another infrastructure project, which included the renovation of the facade and roof of Block A. These works were also supported by the EU Confidence Building Measures Programme
