On 27 November, a new business centre was inaugurated in the village of Volintiri, Stefan Voda district of Moldova.

The building was recently renovated with a  grant of around €49,000 from the European Union initiative ‘Mayors for Economic Growth’ (M4EG), implemented by UNDP Moldova. The roof was repaired, the outside walls were insulated and the heating system was installed.

With the new centre, small entrepreneurs from the Stefan Voda district, including refugees from Ukraine, have access to dedicated workspaces to develop their long-term business in Volintiri. The centre has already opened a tailoring workshop, a beauty salon and a physiotherapy room.

“This Business Centre aims to become a thriving hub for small, much-needed community businesses that will transform the village of Volintiri into an economically resilient community, leading to improved quality of life for residents and ensuring inclusion and equitable access to essential resources and services for all,” said Andrei Darie, Programme Specialist, Inclusive Growth, UNDP Moldova.

The ‘Mayors for Economic Growth’ initiative, II phase (2021-2024), aims at inclusive economic growth and job creation by supporting local authorities in the Eastern Partnership countries.
