Moldova to join Creative Europe programme from January 2026

[post_audio_speech]

Moldova is expected to start participating in Creative Europe, the EU programme supporting the cultural and creative sectors, from 1 January 2026. The European Commission approved the signature and provisional application of an agreement between the EU and Moldova on the country’s participation in the programme.

The agreement is scheduled to be signed on 2 September, during Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef’s visit to Moldova. Once signed, it will apply provisionally, allowing Moldovan organisations to participate on equal terms with their EU counterparts in cultural actions promoting cross-border cooperation, artistic mobility, and cultural diversity.

The agreement will apply provisionally as of its signature. Moldova’s full participation in the Cross-sectorial and the MEDIA strands of the programme will depend on its national legislation meeting the conditions set out in the Audiovisual Media Services Directive

The agreement will enter into force once it is ratified by Moldova in line with its national procedures.

Creative Europe is the European Commission’s flagship programme to support the culture and audiovisual sectors through thousands of projects and professionals across the continent. The programme is divided into two strands – Culture and MEDIA – and is supported by a cross-sectoral strand. The Creative Europe programme 2021-2027 has a budget of €2.44 billion.
