Moldova: water treatment plant construction starts in Edinet
The construction of the Edinet Water Treatment Plant (WTP), a €5.85 million flagship investment under the ‘EU4Moldova: Local Communities programme, started on 9 April.
The new plant will ensure safe drinking water for approximately 25,800 residents of Edinet Municipality and Cupcini Town.
Besides the construction of a new plant, the investments include a new power supply system, the reconstruction of high- and low-voltage electrical installations and the rehabilitation of one of two reservoirs.
Additionally, a new intake and raw water pumping station will be built at the Racovăț Reservoir/Bădragii-Vechi, with a capacity of 90 l/s and a 1 km pipeline to connect to the existing transmission main pipeline.
Finally, the project will upgrade the electro-mechanical components (pumps, electrical control systems) of three intermediate pumping stations to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
“Access to clean water is a fundamental right. Caring for people and respect for all fundamental rights are essential preconditions for accession to the European Union. And Moldova, as I stated earlier, is not alone in this journey,” said Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.
