Ray of Hope: Ukraine Energy Support Fund boosts Ukrainian hospitals with solar power
The Energy Community Secretariat has facilitated the installation of solar PV systems at hospitals in the Zhytomyr, Kyiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions of Ukraine, as part of an EU-funded project covering 83 hospitals across Ukraine. The number of facilities continues to grow as new requests come in.
These systems use solar panels, donated through the ‘Ray of Hope’ project announced by the European Commission in 2023. Installations are already generating electricity helping to tackle the energy disruptions caused by targeted Russian attacks.
“Thanks to our donors from the UK, Germany, the EU, Sweden, Belgium and Canada, the Fund has turned the Ray of Hope Initiative from concept to action,” said Director Artur Lorkowski. “Directing donations to renewable energy and storage systems ensures hospitals stay operational during the war, reducing reliance on Ukraine’s power grid.”
The Ray of Hope initiative is being implemented under the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
The Ukraine Energy Support Fund, administered by the Energy Community Secretariat (co-chaired by the European Commission), enables financial contributions from public and private donors into restoring and strengthening Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. As of 10 January, the Fund received €995 million.
