The Class of 2025: fifth cohort of EU-funded scholars from Eastern Partner countries graduates with IB Diploma in Tbilisi
On 28 May, the Eastern Partnership (EaP) European School Scholarship programme celebrated the graduation of its fifth cohort of students from the six Eastern Partnership countries.
The ceremony took place at the Rustaveli Theatre in Tbilisi, Georgia, hosted by the New School, International School of Georgia. The graduates were joined by their families and faculty members and representatives from the EU Delegation to Georgia.
The Class of 2025 of the scholarship programme comprises 20 students from Armenia (one), Azerbaijan (three), Belarus (four), Georgia (four), the Republic of Moldova (four) and Ukraine (four).
All students, 14 girls and six boys, successfully graduated with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and are now set to continue their undergraduate studies with full or partial scholarships – up to one million euros combined – at universities around the world, including the University of Chicago, IE business school, Vassar College NY, and Hong Kong universities.
“The Eastern Partnership European School Scholarship Programme funded by the EU has been an impactful initiative opening opportunities for youth in the region,” said Lucia Di Troia, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation. “Over five cohorts, the programme provided high-quality, European-focused education to outstanding students from across the Eastern Partnership countries. The success of its graduates, many of whom have gone on to study at world-renowned universities is a powerful legacy of what this initiative has achieved.”

Since the launch of the scholarship programme in 2018, 165 students from all over the six Eastern European countries have received the full two-year scholarship, funded by the EU, to study on the IB Diploma Programme. Ninety-five per cent of graduates have gone on to be awarded full or partial scholarships to study multiple disciplines from STEM to social sciences in leading universities worldwide including Erasmus, Maastricht, Utrecht, Sorbonne, Bologna, Harvard, Yale, Brown, Hong Kong and others.
After completing their studies, the majority of the students plan to return to their home countries to dedicate the gained knowledge and experience to their development. The overall scholarship funds attracted by the five cohorts of graduates since 2018 stand at over €6 million.
The Eastern Partnership European School in Georgia is part of the EU’s broader regional effort to address the needs of youth, focusing on secondary education. It offers high quality education to pupils from six Eastern Partnership countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine – increasing their employment opportunities and promoting a better understanding of the EU and its engagement in the region through a specialised European-focused International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
The project is funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by UNOPS in partnership with the New School – International School of Georgia, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organisation.
