Ukraine Energy Support Fund reaches €1 billion as attacks on energy infrastructure intensify
The Energy Community Secretariat announced today that the Ukraine Energy Support Fund (UESF) has reached a major milestone, surpassing €1 billion in pledges from 30 donors, including six companies and non-state organisations.
“This achievement reflects the unwavering commitment of the international community to support Ukraine’s energy sector amidst continuous Russian attacks on its infrastructure,” says a press release by the Energy Community Secretariat, co-chaired by the European Commission.
The first contribution of €535,000 was made by Denmark in 2022 when the Fund was established, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to mitigate the devastating impact of the war of aggression against Ukraine. So far, Germany leads in donations with €390.5 million, followed by the European Union with €159 million and Sweden with €139.4.
The latest donation was made by Luxemburg on 17 December, which contributed €2 million in order to help Ukraine repair the severe damages inflicted on its energy infrastructure.
As of 16 December 2024, the 56 Ukrainian beneficiaries have concluded 644 contracts based on support granted via the Fund, based on 188 Support Requests approved by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine. In accordance with those contracts, the Fund has released 1,133 payments based on the invoices issued by the suppliers. There are 211 vendors supplying goods under the concluded contracts, over 80% of which are of Ukrainian origin. Equipment supplied based on these contracts has reached 21 regions of Ukraine.
