Ukraine: kindergarten refurbishment to save 50% on energy

[post_audio_speech]

A kindergarten in the Ukrainian town of Myrhorod has reopened after a comprehensive thermal refurbishment, carried out with the support of the EU.

Kindergarten No. 10 is one of the largest pre-school institutions in Myrhorod, hosting up to 250 children. Thanks to EU support, all the windows and doors have been replaced, and the external walls and roof have been insulated, leading to expected energy savings of 50% and comfortable conditions for the children. CO2 emissions will be reduced by more than half.

The school was refurbished as part of a broader €1 million energy saving project for Myhorod, which was selected among Ukrainian signatories of the Covenant of Mayors. Since 2015, 20 cities in five Eastern partner countries have modernised their city street lighting, district heating systems, and thermally refurbished residential and public buildings under the EU-funded Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects initiative.
