Moldovans see increasingly good relations with EU, opinion poll finds
Almost nine out of ten Moldovans (86%) feel their country has good relations with the EU, a ten-point increase compared to 2024, according to the 2025 annual survey of opinion in the Republic of Moldova.
This latest survey was conducted in May 2025 and involved face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 1,030 people across the country. The opinion polls have been carried out annually by the EUNEIGHBOURS east Programme in Moldova and the five other countries of the Eastern Partnership since 2016.
Trust in the EU is also at its highest ever level, 71%, almost 20 points higher than trust in any other global actors, and the EU is seen as Moldova’s most generous and effective partner, with a substantial majority (69%) saying the EU provides high levels of financial support, and 67% saying this support is effective; more than three-quarters of those asked (77%) believe the EU is the largest financial contributor to Moldova, far ahead of other partners.
Overall, most Moldovans (55%) have a positive image of the EU, compared to 14% who have a negative image.
Sixty per cent said they supported EU membership, and 63% would vote in favour of accession if a referendum was held this week, compared to 26% against.
Asked about the areas in which they would like to see greater EU support, 37% said agriculture, 34% health, and 30% economic development and trade.
