Opinion poll shows most people in Azerbaijan feel relations with EU are good
Most Azerbaijani citizens – 61% – feel relations between the EU and Azerbaijan are good, according to the 2025 annual survey of opinion in Azerbaijan, but only 25% have a positive image of the EU, with 37% neutral and 10% negative.
This latest survey was conducted in May 2025 and involved face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 1,000 people across the country. The opinion polls have been carried out annually by the EUNEIGHBOURS east Programme in Azerbaijan and the five other countries of the Eastern Partnership since 2016.
Respondents suggested that greater support for economic development (49%), education and exchanges (40%), and visa facilitation (32%) would make them more positively disposed towards the EU.
While 68% are aware of EU financial support (up from 62% last year), only 27% rate it as high or very high. However, an ever-increasing number (50%) feel that EU support is effective (up from 40% in 2024 and 25% in 2023).
Just over a third of those asked (36%) wanted the EU to play a greater role in supporting education in Azerbaijan, 27% wanted more support for young people, and 26% for vulnerable populations.
