Opinion poll shows rising trust for the European Union in Armenia

Sixty-two per cent of Armenians trust the European Union, more than any other international institution and 19 points up on two years ago, while almost four out of five of those asked (78%) think relations between the EU and Armenia are good, according to the 2024 annual survey of opinion in Armenia.

The survey was conducted in March 2024 and involved face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 1,000 people across the country. The opinion polls have been carried out annually by the EUNEIGHBOURS east Programme in Armenia and the five other countries of the Eastern Partnership since 2016.

This year’s survey also found that 80% of Armenians were aware of the EU’s financial support to their country (compared to 62% in 2016, and the highest since the surveys began), and that 48% thought it was effective (up 11 points on last year).

Most Armenians (56%) have a positive image of the EU (nine points up on last year), compared to just 9% with a negative image and 30% who felt neutral.

Most Armenians (75%) would like the EU to play a greater role in strengthening the country’s defence, while 42% would like more support for health care, and 40% for education.

The survey also found that media sources in Armenia conveyed a positive (50%) or neutral (35%) image of the EU, and that nearly all citizens (90%) would like to have better access to information about the EU.
