Opinion poll shows rising trust for the European Union in Armenia

Sixty-nine per cent of Armenians trust the European Union, more than any other international actor and seven points up on last year, while almost four out of five of those asked (79%) think relations between the EU and Armenia are good, according to the 2025 annual survey of opinion in Armenia.

The survey was conducted in May 2025 and involved face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of just over 1,000 people across the country. The opinion polls have been carried out annually by the EUNEIGHBOURS east Programme in Armenia and the five other countries of the Eastern Partnership since 2016.

This year’s survey also found that 86% of Armenians were aware of the EU’s financial support to their country (up six points on last year, and the highest since the surveys began), and that 48% thought it was effective.

Almost half of those asked (47%) have a positive image of the EU, compared to just 9% with a negative image and 38% who felt neutral.

Most Armenians (51%) would like the EU to play a greater role in strengthening the country’s defence, while 26% would like more support for health care, and 23% for education.

The survey also found that both traditional and social media sources in Armenia generally conveyed a positive (42% traditional, 46% social media) or neutral (37/28%) image of the EU.

Asked about Armenia applying to join the European Union, 45% said they would support such an application. In a hypothetical referendum on EU membership, 49% would vote in favour and 14% against.
