The screening process is the first step in the accession negotiations. It is a process conducted jointly by the European Commission and the candidate country and concerns 33 chapters of the EU acquis.This factsheet will be of interest to anyone who wants to understand how the EU accession negotiation process works. It will be especially useful for representatives of Ukraine and Moldova, with which the EU decided to open negotiations on 14 December 2023, and Georgia, which was granted candidate country status on the same day.
