We visited Northern Moldova together with Marta Kos. Here’s how our day went

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos visited the Republic of Moldova on an official three-day visit from 9-11 May. The purpose of her visit was to get to know the people and traditions of the country. On 9 May, she visited central Moldova, on 10 May, the north, and on 11 May, the south of the country.

On 10 May, we joined the visit to the northern part of the country. The day began in the city of Orhei, where the local school community organised a European Festival and a local food fair. There, the Commissioner spoke with residents and thanked the youth for their efforts in supporting a pro-European vision.

The next stop was the village of Negureni, where we were welcomed by actor and influencer Emilian Crețu. He gave us a tour of his parents’ home, invited the guest to feed the poultry in the yard, and treated her to traditional Moldovan dishes: zama, plăcinte, and ‘Cușma lui Guguță’.

From Negureni, we headed to Edineț. There, Marta Kos visited the ‘Island of Dreams’ — an open-air youth space created with the support of the European Union. She also toured a local producers’ fair.

At the end of the day, we arrived in Bălți, where the Commissioner met with local youth and entrepreneurs.

We truly enjoyed getting a glimpse of what it’s like to live a day in the shoes of a diplomat. And believe us, it was a full day. We not only explored Northern Moldova, but also saw it through the eyes of an outsider. One thing is certain: we witnessed immense development potential and were reminded once again that Moldova’s true superpower is its people.

But as the saying goes, “Seeing is believing” — so we documented our experience in a video diary and invite you to watch it.
