Audiovisual production and cinema: Creative Europe in Ukraine launches two new calls under MEDIA sub-programme

In April, two new calls open to Ukraine were launched under the EU’s MEDIA sub-programme, focusing on audiovisual production and cinema support.

Budget: €5,500,000

The support will be provided to independent European production companies that are able to develop a package of 2-3 audiovisual works (feature film, animation, creative documentary). This should allow production companies to reduce risks and increase their ability to attract and retain new talent.

Deadline: 17 September 2025, 17:00 Brussels time

Budget: €15,500,000

The call will support cinema chains that will screen non-national European films. The call will also help cinemas adapt their strategy to the changing environment, in particular by promoting innovative approaches to audience engagement and interaction, as well as through partnerships with other film industry representatives and local cultural institutions.

Deadline: 16 July 2025, 17:00 Brussels time

Creative Europe in Ukraine also soon expects to open a competition in this sub-programme called European Film sales agent (CREA-MEDIA-2025-FILMSALES).

Creative Europe’ is a programme of the European Union aimed at supporting the cultural, creative and audiovisual sectors. The aim of the programme is to protect, develop and promote European cultural and linguistic diversity and heritage, as well as to increase the competitiveness and economic potential of the cultural and creative industries, including the audiovisual sector. Ukraine joined the programme in 2016. Since then, Ukrainian applicants have been able to receive grant support in more than 30 different calls. The total European budget of the programme for 2021-2027 is €2.44 billion. The programme currently operates in 40 countries.

In Ukraine, the National Programme Office permanently operates to provide consulting support to Ukrainian applicants and to disseminate relevant information about the programme.
