Georgia: FAO calls for young agronomists

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (with EU funding) has announced an internship programme for young agronomists in Georgia.

The FAO is seeking 13 recently graduated and last year students with a bachelor degree in Agronomy, who will work in the Adjara, Imereti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kakheti, Shida Kartli and Kvemo Kartli regions. Young agronomists will provide the FAO with technical support in implementing a network of demonstration plots to showcase good agricultural practices to farmers.

The interns will benefit from theoretical and practical training by experts performing their duties in the field demonstration plots for six months. After the programme, the young people will have an opportunity to join the team as professionals.

The FAO is implementing this project under the EU-funded European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD III), which aims to increase the capacities of farmers through improved provision of extension advice in eight Georgian municipalities (Dedoplistskaro, Tetriskaro, Lagodekhi, Kazbegi, Khulo, Keda, Alkhalkalaki and Borjomi).

The deadline for applications is 14 February.
